DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released its annual update of the team rankings, with changes in positions across all formats, with Pakistan slipping and Sri Lanka making notable gains.
In T20 Internationals, India, the reigning world champions, retained the top spot. However, their lead over second-placed Australia has been reduced from 10 points to nine.
England is third, with New Zealand, the West Indies and South Africa tied for third. Sri Lanka continued its rise, moving up to seventh and pushing Pakistan to eighth. Bangladesh and Afghanistan are in ninth and tenth positions respectively.
Ireland swapped places with Zimbabwe to 11th. Among the emerging teams, Canada recorded the largest increase in the rankings (+9 points), entering the top 20. The Bahamas and Estonia saw the most dramatic jumps in the rankings, rising to 51st and 61st, respectively.
India have consolidated their lead in the ODI rankings after winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, increasing their rating from 122 to 124. Runners-up New Zealand have moved up to second place, overtaking Australia, who have moved up to third.
Sri Lanka made the most significant jump to fourth place after winning the ODI series against both India and Australia. The five-point gain has seen them leapfrog Pakistan, who are now fifth with a marginal gain of one point, and South Africa, who are sixth after a loss of four points.
Afghanistan moved up four points to seventh, pushing England to eighth. West Indies similarly moved up five points to ninth, while Bangladesh dropped four points to tenth.
The USA posted the biggest jump in the rankings (+6 points) but remain in 15th place. Oman overtook Canada to move up to 16th. There were no major changes among the other teams.
Australia remain at the top of the ICC men’s Test team rankings with an unchanged ranking of 126. However, their points have fallen from 15 to 13 due to the annual calculation method, which now gives full weight (100%) to matches played since May 2024 and half value (50%) for older games.
England have won three of their last four series to move into second place after a strong season under Ben Stokes. Their new ranking of 113 places them ahead of South Africa (111) and India (105), who are now third and fourth respectively.
The rest of the top 10 is solid: New Zealand (5th), Sri Lanka (6th), Pakistan (7th), West Indies (8th), Bangladesh (9th), and Zimbabwe (10th). Ireland and Afghanistan need to meet the minimum match requirements to be included.
