BCCI Statement

Earlier, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devjit Saikia, while explaining the decision to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, had said that India’s participation in international competitions is in accordance with government policy.

He clarified that it is not possible to refuse to participate in any tournament in which several countries participate, as per India’s recent policy, there is no restriction on playing against these countries in any international or multinational tournament.

According to Devjit Saikia, the BCCI fully follows the instructions of the central government with whom India has tense political relations, the Asia Cup is a multinational tournament, and India will fully participate in it.

Under the same principle, India will play matches against all teams, including Pakistan, in other events held under the ICC. He said that India will not play against any enemy country in the bilateral series.

He further said that if India refuses to play in a multinational event against any country, Indian sports may face a ban at the international level, which will harm the players.
