DUBAI: New Zealand defeated South Africa by 32 runs to win the Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 159 runs, South Africa managed to score only 126 runs in their 20 overs. Captain Laura Woolward top scored with 33 runs while Tazmin Burts scored 17 runs and Chloe Tryon scored 14 runs.
For New Zealand, Amelia Kerr and Rosemary Mayer took 3 and 3, while Aidan Carson, Fran Jonas and Brook Halliday took one wicket each.
Earlier, New Zealand scored 158/5 in their 20 overs, with Amelia Kerr scoring 43 and Brooke Halliday scoring 38. Suzy Bates added 32 runs while Maddie Green added 12 runs.
For South Africa, Malaba took 2 wickets while Ayabonga Khaka, Chloe Trayvon and Nadine de Klerk took one wicket each.
In the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, South Africa women’s captain Laura Wilwardt won the toss and invited New Zealand women’s captain Sophie Devine to bat first.
