Pakistan defeats Afghanistan by 39 runs in tri-series opener

SHARJAH: Pakistan defeated Afghanistan by 39 runs in the first match of the tri-series on Friday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Afghanistan’s team was bowled out for 143 runs in 19.5 overs while chasing 183 runs.

Captain Rashid Khan standout for Afghanistan with 39 runs. Rahmanullah Garbaz 38, Siddiqullah Atal 23, Darwish Rasooli 21, Ibrahim Zadran 9, Mujeeb ur Rehman 4, Mohammad Nabi 3 and Farid Ahmed were dismissed for 1 run each.

While Karim Janat and Azmatullah Omarzai returned to the field without opening an account.

Fazal Haq Farooqi remained not out with 1 run.

Haris Rauf took 4 wickets. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Nawaz and Sufyan Muqim took 2 wickets each.

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 182 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Captain Salman Agha was outstanding for the Shaheens by scoring 53 runs not out. Sahibzada Farhan 21, Muhammad Nawaz 21, Fakhar Zaman 20, Muhammad Haris 15, Faheem Ashraf 14, Saim Ayub 14 and Hassan Nawaz 9 were out on individual scores.

Farid Ahmed took 2 wickets while Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, Muhammad Nabi, captain Rashid Khan and Azmatullah Umarzai took 1 wicket each.
