MUMBAI: Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has described Pakistan’s chances of winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup as bright.
Ashwin spoke about the team’s chances during an analysis of the Pakistan squad on his YouTube channel.
Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said that some people may not like this, but I am only talking about cricket. I think Pakistan’s chances of winning this World Cup are really good.
According to Ashwin, Pakistan’s openers and bowlers are the team’s big strength.
He said that Pakistan’s biggest strength is its opening pair. Babar Azam will not open, but Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub will open. Saim Ayub has been impressive while batting in the power play.
Ashwin said that in bowling, Shaheen Shah Afridi’s economy rate in the powerplay is 6.5. Abrar Ahmed and Nawaz are also good bowlers, Nawaz with control and Abrar is dangerous because of his individuality.
The 39-year-old Ashwin also mentioned the weaknesses of the Pakistan team, including the inconsistent performance of some key players and team combination decisions, but he also acknowledged the potential of emerging talent.
He said that Pakistan’s weakness is Babar Azam’s entry into the middle order, while Naseem Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi’s bowling in the death overs has not been very effective. Shadab Khan’s batting and bowling form have also declined.
Finally, Ashwin said that overall, the Pakistan team is strong, although there are weaknesses, but they also have players like Salman Ali Agha who are not often mentioned.
