LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to re-examine the central contract national players following their disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, which led to the Green Shirts’s early elimination from the tournament.
According to the source, the matters related to the retention of players and their salaries will now be reviewed by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi who had called for a “major surgery” after the poor show in the ongoing event.
“Senior officials of the cricket board were present in their offices late into the night, consulting on the team’s poor performance and the central contracts,” the sources said.
Furthermore, sources suggested that in the first phase, players with poor performances are likely to be demoted from their central contracts. Meanwhile, several others are expected to lose their central contracts altogether, the sources said.
Pakistan team eliminated from the ongoing marquee tournament and failed to qualify for the Super eight-round after two early setbacks.
Pakistan started their World Cup campaign with an unexpected defeat from debutants USA in Dallas, Texas by five runs in a Super Over and lost the next match to India by six runs in New York.
Men in Green managed to win against Canada on Tuesday by seven wickets and their last match of the tournament is scheduled against Ireland on Sunday (tomorrow).
