PESHAWAR: The Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium is likely to host Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 matches as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is contemplating reviving cricket in the arena after a long 19-year gap.
According to the sources, PCB has been considering a proposal to host two PSL matches this year in April in Peshawar’s newly overhauled stadium.
The development came after the International Cricket Council (ICC) officials visited the stadium to assess the feasibility of hosting Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in Peshawar.
The visit included a survey of the ground, pavilion area, player routes, and hotel accommodations for foreign players, the state-run APP reported.
As per details, Peshawar police officials briefed ICC representatives on security arrangements including a shuttle service for spectators, drone surveillance, and the establishment of a helipad near the stadium.
In another development, Peshawar Zalmi’s owner Javed Afridi, and the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government requested the PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to consider Peshawar for the upcoming PSL.
In an email sent to PCB, Javed Afridi highlighted the importance of hosting games at Zalmi’s home ground. He asked PCB to form a committee in Peshawar to guarantee the hosting of PSL in the city.
In a post on X, Afridi wrote, ”
Taking on X, Zalim’s owner said Chief Minister KP Ali Amin Gandapur has given directives to the sports department to release funds for the remaining 20% construction work at Arbab Niaz Stadium Peshawar.”
“Chairman PCB is in favor of hosting the Peshawar Zalmi games in Peshawar. Get ready for some thrilling events before PSL, fans will see International Stars at KP Soil. InshaAlla,” he wrote.
The last international cricket match between Pakistan and India at the venue took place in 2006.
