NAPIER: West Indies captain Shai Hope has achieved a historic feat in international cricket.
In the second match of the ODI series against New Zealand in Napier on Wednesday, he added his name to the world record of cricket by playing a brilliant, unbeaten innings of 109 runs.
With this century, Shai Hope has become the first cricketer in the world to score a century against 13 different international teams, which includes all 11 full member teams as well as the Netherlands and Nepal.
This was also his 19th ODI century, through which he equaled the record of 19 centuries of West Indies legend Brian Lara.
It should be remembered that Chris Gayle is the player who has scored the most centuries in ODIs for the West Indies with 25 centuries.
In the match, West Indies batted first and scored 247 runs for 9 wickets, but hosts New Zealand achieved the target for the loss of 5 wickets and took a 2-0 lead in the 3-match series.
This milestone for Shai Hope not only gave him a unique place on the world stage but also proved to be a proud moment for West Indies cricket.
