LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to retain Shan Masood as the captain of the national team for the entire cycle of the World Test Championship 2025–27.

The board has expressed confidence in the captain despite his poor performance. During the last World Test Championship 2023–25, the Pakistan team faced defeat in 9 out of 12 Test matches.

Captain Shan Masood and head coach Azhar Mahmood have been given complete free hand over the team, so that they can prepare the squad according to their plans.

Interestingly, the captain and coach will not be part of the selection committee. The current selection committee includes Aleem Dar, Aqib Javed, Asad Shafiq, and Azhar Ali.

Despite criticism of Shan Masood’s leadership, the board remains confident, even though he was demoted from the “B” to the “D” category in the new central contract.

Pakistan’s team will begin the new Test cycle against defending champions South Africa in Lahore on October 12.
