Apple to soon start iPhone manufacturing in Pakistan

CALIFORNIA: Apple will initiate iPhone production in Pakistan through the new Mobile and Electronics Manufacturing Framework, which has received government support as part of its strategy to establish the country as a regional export center.

The report states that the government will provide incentives, which include an 8 percent performance incentive and land at discounted rates to attract the tech giant.

Apple will establish an iPhone refurbishment operation in Pakistan, which will enable the company to refurbish used iPhones for export purposes, while the government expects to generate $100 million in export revenue during the first year.

The plan is part of a broader strategy to bring global technology companies into Pakistan by offering competitive incentives and building local manufacturing capacity.

Apple plans to start its operations by repairing two to three-year-old iPhones through this model, which the company has already used in India, Malaysia, and Indonesia before it begins its complete manufacturing operations.

The new framework proposes increasing performance incentives from the current 6 percent to 8 percent to attract investment from Apple and other international manufacturers.

The government expects to soon approve the policy, which has gained support from high-ranking government officials. The government aims to attract more funding into the electronics industry, which includes laptops and tablets, wearables and accessories.
