ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved the auction of 5G spectrum under the Digital Pakistan Program.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and IT Minister Shaza Fatima, while holding a joint press conference, said that the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved the auction of 5G spectrum.
Muhammad Aurangzeb said that all international standards were kept in mind in the spectrum auction process and on this basis, recommendations were given regarding the price of the spectrum, payment terms and auction design.
He said that the Internet is the foundation of the entire digital system, and we are accelerating the journey of Digital Pakistan.
IT Minister Shaza Fatima said that the recommendations of the Spectrum Advisory Committee will be presented to the cabinet soon, and consultation with other relevant stakeholders, including the telecom sector, will be ensured.
The IT Minister said that they are going to auction 600 MHz spectrum.
Due to a lack of spectrum, the internet speed in Pakistan is not of world standard.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister’s Spokesperson for Foreign Media Musharraf Zaidi, while talking about the privatization of PIA and the 5G spectrum auction, said that at the same time, the bidding process of PIA has been completed, while the approval of the 5G spectrum auction has also been given.
He said that the PIA bidding and the approval of the 5G spectrum auction were broadcast live, Musharraf Zaidi said that Alhamdulillah, months of tireless work, policy deliberations and negotiations under the leadership of the Prime Minister have finally started showing practical results.
