BEIJING: Chinese company Honor has recently introduced its new smartphone Magic8 Pro Air, which comes with several advanced features despite being thin and light. The phone offers practical advantages over the iPhone Air.
The Magic8 Pro Air features a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,216 × 2,640 and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The native brightness reaches 6,000 nits, which is perfect for use in outdoor environments.
The phone is only 6.1 mm thick and weighs 155 grams, but it has stereo speakers, dual nano-SIM slots, eSIM support and IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance.
The screen also includes an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and the phone is available in Shadow Black, Fairy Purple, Feather White and Light Orange colors.
In terms of internal hardware, the phone features a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset, 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM, and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage.
It runs on MagicOS 10, which is based on Android 16, making the phone more powerful and versatile than ultra-thin phones like the iPhone Air.
The phone has a triple rear camera setup that includes a 50MP main camera, a 64MP periscope telephoto, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. The front camera is also 50MP.
The telephoto camera offers 3.2x optical zoom with OIS, which is better than the limited camera setup on the iPhone Air.
The Magic8 Pro Air also stands out in terms of battery. It has a 5,500 mAh battery that supports 80W wired and 50W wireless charging. This provides fast charging and long battery life in everyday use. The model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is available in China for $717, while the model with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage is available for $860, which is cheaper than the iPhone Air’s launch price of $999.
This phone claims to rival the iPhone Air and provide users with a great alternative to a thin but powerful smartphone.
