ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially denied a social media claim of blocking mobile phones’ IMEI for using five different SIMs in a month.

A viral fake notification circulated on social media with the PTA logo claimed that using over five different SIMs in a single mobile device within one month would result in the IMEI being blocked and network services suspended.

“Completely false and misleading,” said PTA’s Director of Communications, Zaib-un-Nisa.

She also stressed that PTA only checks IMEI duplication and device cloning, not SIM usage per device.

The authority takes action against questionable devices, such as disabling cloned phones, executing raids in conjunction with the FIA, and initiating public awareness campaigns.

Furthermore, the PTA’s official social media handles have identified the circulating message as fraudulent, warning the public not to believe or distribute unconfirmed material.

The allegation that mobile phones would be prohibited from using more than five SIM cards in a month is absolutely unfounded and untrue.
