ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman said that all preparations for the 5G spectrum auction in Pakistan have been completed.
While talking to reporters informally, he added that the path has been paved for the launch of 5G services in the country.
He said that 5G technology will open a new chapter in Pakistan’s digital future, and users will get fast and modern facilities.
The PTA Chairman said that the authority will request the government to hold the 5G spectrum auction before Ramadan to promote investment in the telecom sector.
He said that the information memorandum related to the 5G auction will be issued in the next 10 to 15 days, which will include the rules and regulations of the auction, available spectrum and other technical details.
Major General (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman said that the PTA has completed consultations with all stakeholders to make the auction process transparent and in line with international standards.
According to him, 5G services will not only significantly increase the speed of mobile internet but will also revolutionize IT, FinTech, e-Health, Smart Cities and industrial sectors.
The PTA Chairman further said that 5G technology is an important milestone under the government’s Digital Pakistan Policy, which will not only provide better service to the consumers but will also benefit the country’s economy.
He said that after the auction, operators will be given adequate time to expand the 5G network so that the services can be launched in a phased and effective manner.
He expressed hope that local and international investors will take keen interest in the 5G spectrum auction, which will further strengthen the telecom sector and Pakistan will move forward in the race for digital development in the region.
