NEW YORK: Elon Musk’s social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, suffered a brief but widespread global outage on Monday, disrupting the service for thousands of users.

The outage began at around 9 am EST, according to outage tracking website Down Detector, with the number of complaints in the US surpassing 25,000.

Complaints in Canada fell from a peak of more than 3,400 to around 30, while the situation improved in the UK after more than 9,000 complaints were reported.

Most of the problems were related to X’s mobile app, with around 45% of users complaining that the app was not working properly.

Around 30% of users said their feed and timeline were not updating or new posts were not loading.

Meanwhile, reports of a disruption to Cloudflare’s web infrastructure also emerged, with delays and connection issues reported in North America and Europe due to a fiber cable fault.

It should be noted that the figures on Down Detector are based on complaints filed by users, so the actual number of affected users may differ.

No official statement was immediately issued by Elon Musk-owned Platform X regarding the exact cause of the outage.
