ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been actively working to curb online content deemed objectionable, including pornographic, indecent, and immoral material.

To achieve this, PTA implemented the Central Domain Name System (C-DNS) policy enforcement mechanism in April 2022, enabling real-time blocking of unlawful content.

This move aims to ensure compliance with Section 37 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.

Additionally, PTA has taken measures to address concerns surrounding social media platforms, particularly TikTok. In September 2020, PTA directed TikTok to block vulgar, indecent, immoral, and nude content for viewership in Pakistan.

The authority emphasized the need for effective content monitoring and moderation mechanisms to proactively remove objectionable content.

PTA’s efforts extend to educating consumers about online safety and responsible usage. The authority provides resources and guidelines for parents, consumers, and stakeholders, promoting a safer online environment. Some notable initiatives include:

The PTA’s “Online Safety Guide” provides valuable tips and best practices for individuals to protect themselves from online threats and ensure a secure browsing experience.

For instances where objectionable content or suspicious activities are encountered, the PTA’s “Consumer Complaints” platform offers a convenient and accessible reporting mechanism. This enables swift action to be taken against harmful content.

Furthermore, to empower parents and guardians, the PTA recommends “Parental Control Software” solutions. These tools enable monitoring and control of online content, ensuring a safe and healthy digital experience for children.

These proactive measures demonstrate the PTA’s commitment to safeguarding Pakistan’s cyber landscape and promoting responsible internet usage.
