ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned consumers against buying clone or duplicate mobile devices, here on Tuesday.
In a statement, the PTA announced that clone or duplicate mobile devices will be blocked to prevent illegal activities.
“Always buy from trusted sources and make sure the phone is under warranty. Buy boxed phones, check the PTA stamp on the box, and match the IMEI on the box and the phone,” the authority added.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has directed users to check the IMEI of their devices through the Dirbs website or by texting IMEI to 8484.
“If you have received a message from the PTA about your device being cloned or duplicated, verify your IMEI by dialling *#06# and enter it,” the authority said in a statement. Compare it with the IMEI mentioned in the PTA message.”
If the customers continue to face the problem, they are advised to complete proof of purchase of their mobile device and FBR tax payment at PTA CMS at complaint.pta.gov.pk.
The authority issued a warning against investing in expensive equipment that is being sold at unusually low prices or without warranty.
Consumers were urged to ensure that they buy packaged mobile devices, stay in touch with the seller, and report to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) if they fall victim to fraud, the authority informed) report any problems.
