NEW YORK: TikTok has announced that it will not provide end-to-end encryption protection in the video-sharing app’s Direct Messages feature.

According to a report, TikTok has made this decision because the company believes that it makes users less secure.

During a security briefing in London, TikTok was told that if end-to-end encryption technology is used, the company’s safety teams or law enforcement agencies will not be able to read messages if necessary.

The company said that for this reason, we have decided not to make the end-to-end encryption feature part of Direct Messages, the main purpose of which is to ensure the safety of minor users on the platform.

With end-to-end encryption, only the sender and recipient of the message can read it.

According to TikTok, messages sent in its app are protected by traditional encryption and only authorized officials can access them.

The company said this is done only when requested by management or when harmful behavior is reported among users.
