ISLAMABAD: Twitter, also known as X, has now put new limits on what unverified users can do on its social media platform, whereas users are saying that the whole thing is a bit unclear in the way it rolls out.
The company said on Monday that these limits will be for accounts that don’t have that blue verified check mark, right next to the username. X stated that the new technical limits are supposed to ease pressure on the platform’s behind-the-scenes systems, and they’re also meant to cut down on downtime and reduce error pages.
Under the new rules, unverified users can send up to 500 direct messages each day. They can also share 50 original posts, plus 200 replies per day.
X added that this daily update cap is split into smaller amounts every half hour.
On top of that, a user can change their account email no more than four times per hour. X also set a technical follow cap of 400 accounts per day.
The company emphasized this is just a “technical” account limit and that separate rules still block chasing/following in an aggressive way. And for accounts that already follow 5,000 other accounts, any further follow attempts will be curbed using account-specific ratios.
X said API activity coming from third-party applications is tracked as part of the hourly API limit. In other words, if someone connects several outside apps to their X account, they may hit the API limit faster than you’d expect.
