NEW YORK: Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and owner of companies like Tesla and X (Twitter), has called WhatsApp an unsafe app. In an X post, Elon Musk said that WhatsApp is not safe, but the Signal app cannot be called safe either.

He called XChat a safe alternative to these two messaging apps. Elon Musk made this post when a lawsuit was filed in a US court.

The lawsuit challenges WhatsApp’s claim of end-to-end encryption. The lawsuit said that Meta and WhatsApp could potentially access users’ private messages.

The lawsuit was filed by users from different countries, such as Australia, Mexico, and South Africa, who claim that the security protections available in WhatsApp are not available.

They alleged that Meta employees access users’ private messages.

The case was based on a statement from an anonymous Meta whistleblower who claimed that Meta’s internal systems could bypass encryption and access users’ messages.

The lawsuit also alleged that this access was for an unlimited period of time, allowing Meta employees to view all message history, even deleted messages.

But no technical evidence was provided in the lawsuit documents. Meta has denied these allegations, calling them ridiculous.
