CALIFORNIA: WhatsApp has introduced a new feature related to status updates, allowing users to share statuses with people who are not saved in their contact list, according to a report by WABetaInfo.
The feature is currently being tested in limited regions on Android, iOS, and the web version of WhatsApp.
With this update, users will be able to share status updates with people they have recently chatted with or called, even if their numbers are not saved in contacts.
The report said WhatsApp had earlier introduced a “Close Friends” option for status updates in the Android beta version, which allows users to share statuses only with selected people. Along with this, WhatsApp is now expanding options by making it possible to share statuses with a wider audience.
At present, WhatsApp statuses can only be viewed by people in a user’s contact list. The new update involves changes to privacy settings, enabling status sharing with non-contacts who have previously interacted with the user.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature is still under development, and there is no confirmation yet on when it will be rolled out to all users globally.
