Islamabad: Omar Ayub Khan, a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-backed Sunni Ittehad Council has began speaking, but the state-run television channel abruptly stopped broadcasting his speech during a session of the National Assembly.

This occurred after PM-elect Shahbaz Sharif’s address in the same session. Speaker Ayaz Sadiq invited Ayub to speak, but live coverage was cut off as soon as he started. The interruption prompted slogans of “thief” in the assembly.

Following the deputy speaker’s intervention, PTV was instructed to resume live coverage of Ayub’s speech. Ayub expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contest the prime ministerial election and commented on the somber atmosphere in the assembly.

He insinuated that those with a mandate were involved in wrongdoing, referencing peaceful protests organized by PTI against Form 47, resulting in the arrest of about 80 workers in Lahore. Ayub pledged to disclose more details.

He also addressed alleged harassment and violence faced by PTI members, demanding an independent inquiry into the events of May 9 and questioning who is accountable for the sacrifices made by youth. Ayub underscored that Bushra Bibi, the wife of the PM, is not a liability but a source of strength for PTI.
