Rain alert across the country till June 20, landslides likely in upper districts

ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Department has forecast rain in various parts of the country from today till June 20.

The PDMA has issued a rain alert in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, like the rest of the country, from today till June 20.

According to the agency, thunderstorms, strong winds and rain are likely in the upper and central districts of the province. According to the PDMA, there is a risk of landslides in some areas of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla and Kohistan, while strong winds, hail and lightning can damage crops and weak structures.

The Meteorological Department has predicted thundershowers in Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Battagram today. Similarly, strong winds and rain have also been forecast in Kalam, Parachinar, Waziristan and Swat.

Rains with strong winds, gusty winds and thunderstorms have been predicted in the upper and central regions of the country from June 16 to 20, while the weather situation is likely to remain unstable in different areas during this period.

The Meteorological Department says that a westerly wind system is likely to enter the upper parts of the country, which may persist till June 20, along with this, humid winds from the Arabian Sea will also enter the central and upper regions, as a result of which this weather system will become active.

Dusty winds, gusty winds and thunderstorms are likely to occur at various places in Punjab and Islamabad from June 16 to 20. Rain has also been predicted in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The PDMA has issued instructions to the district administration for preventive measures and emergency preparedness, while rescue and relief agencies have been asked to remain alert and ensure immediate response. The organization has also advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel due to the weather conditions.
