KARACHI: A powerful cyclonic storm, ASNA, is currently churning over the Arabian Sea, but its intensity is expected to diminish significantly by this evening.
According to the latest updates, the storm is moving west-southwestwards at a speed of 13kmph and is currently centered approximately 500km west-southwest of Karachi and 440km east of Muscat, Oman.
The Indian Met Office has forecasted that ASNA will continue to weaken, gradually transforming into a deep depression by tonight and further diminishing into a depression by tomorrow morning.
The storm’s strong winds are expected to reach speeds of 35-45kmph, with gusts of up to 55kmph, over the next 12 hours.
Residents of Balochistan can expect rain-thundershowers, accompanied by strong winds of 60-70km/hour, in districts such as Hub, Lasbella, Awaran, Ormara, Pasni, Gwadar, Jiwani, Turbat, and Panjgur, until tonight. Heavy downpours may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas along the Makran coast.
Meanwhile, sea conditions are expected to remain turbulent, with rough to very rough seas and squally winds of 60-70km/hour, gusting up to 80km/hour, throughout the day.
As a precautionary measure, fishermen in Balochistan have been advised to avoid venturing into the open sea until tonight.
