SYDNEY: An Australian influencer from Queensland has been charged with poisoning her one-year-old daughter to gain sympathy and increase her social media following. The woman had claimed she was sharing her child’s fight with a terminal illness online, but authorities allege she deliberately gave the baby prescription and over-the-counter drugs without permission and filmed her suffering.

Doctors became concerned when the child was admitted to hospital in October with serious medical issues. After a lengthy investigation, the 34-year-old woman was charged with multiple offenses including torture, poisoning, making child exploitation material, and fraud.

Police revealed that between August and October, the woman administered various unauthorized medications to the child and tried to conceal her actions, even using leftover medicine meant for another household member. Testing confirmed the presence of these drugs in January.

Despite the traumatic events, the child is now reported to be safe and recovering well. The woman had raised around A$60,000 through GoFundMe donations, which the platform is working to refund.

Authorities have also investigated others connected to the case but found no evidence to press charges against anyone else. The accused is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.
