NEW DELHI: Indian actor C Joseph Vijay has given up one of his assembly seats as soon as he took over as Chief Minister. After which there was a stir in the politics of the state.
According to Indian media, Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam leader actor C Joseph Vijay had won from both Perambur and Tiruchi East constituencies in the recent elections, however, under Indian law, only one seat can be retained at a time. That is why he decided to resign from the Tiruchi East seat.
Vijay’s resignation was submitted by state ministers Senguttayan and Venkat Ramanan to Assembly Secretary Srinivasan. After which the seat was officially declared vacant. The Election Commission will hold by-elections in this constituency within the next 6 months.
On the other hand, Vijay took oath as the 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in a grand ceremony held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office to him.
Nine other MLAs also took oath as ministers at the swearing-in ceremony. These included N. Anand, Aadhu Arjun, Arun Raj, Sengutaiyan and CTR Nirmal Kumar.
In his first address after becoming the Chief Minister, Vijay said that a white paper on the state’s financial situation would be released soon. So that the public could be informed about the real facts. Do not expect immediate results and give the government time for reforms.
Vijay announced strict measures, stating that the protection of women and the eradication of drugs are the top priorities of his government.

As soon as he took over as the Chief Minister, he signed several important decisions, including 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers, the establishment of a special task force for the protection of women and anti-narcotics units to fight drugs.
