TEL AVIV: The Israeli military said on Saturday that an Israeli soldier was killed in southern Lebanon, where a ceasefire had been in effect since earlier this week.

According to the Israeli military, Command Sergeant Barak Kalfon, 48, was wounded in an incident on Friday and later died of his injuries. Three other soldiers were also injured in the incident. However, the military did not provide further details of the incident.

According to an Israeli news website, the incident occurred during an operation in southern Lebanon, where the Israeli army was clearing buildings about 3.5 kilometers from the border.

The report said that Barak Kalfon was among the first soldiers to enter a building rigged with a landmine, which then exploded in the building. He was given immediate medical attention, but was later confirmed dead.

It should be noted that the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon came into effect at midnight on Thursday.
