OTTAWA: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has signaled a major shift in the country’s defense policy, vowing to reduce dependence on the United States and increase domestic military investment.

According to Canadian media, while addressing the Liberal Party’s national convention in Montreal, Mark Carney called national sovereignty and defense self-reliance the centerpiece of his political strategy.

On this occasion, he said that the time has passed when 70 cents out of every dollar of Canadian military spending went to the United States.

Mark Carney said that the global situation is changing rapidly and Canada can no longer rely entirely on past alliances, reducing defense dependence on the United States and increasing domestic military investment.
