CANADA: A Pakistani-Canadian businessman, Rahat Rao, was critically injured after being set on fire by an unidentified assailant in Surrey, British Columbia. The attack occurred on August 2, with the suspect described as a man approximately 24 or 25 years old.
According to the report, the incident happened after a person visited Rahat’s office for some “money exchange work”. The man then set Rao on fire and ran away.
Rahat Rao a notable member of the Canadian community had a forex buisness in surrey central area , and had been actively involved in protests following the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani terrorist, in June 2022. Nijjar was shot and killed outside a gurdwara in Surrey and was listed as a designated terrorist by the Indian government, among 40 others.
The killing of Nijjar triggered a diplomatic dispute between India and Canada, particularly after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged in September 2022 that Indian government agents might have been involved. India has strongly denied these allegations, labeling them as “absurd” and “motivated.”
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is currently investigating Nijjar’s death. The motive behind the attack is still unclear, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances of the incident.
