Fire erupts in Pakistan Stock Exchange building in Karachi [Video]

KARACHI: A fire erupted on the fourth floor of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) building in Karachi on Monday.

Rescue and police officials reached the spot and started evacuation from the building. Five fire tenders, one snorkel, and a browser have completely extinguished the fire, which was caused by a short circuit.

The fire broke out on the fourth floor of the PSX building above the trading hall, Rescue officials said. There was no loss of life in the incident.

The first trading day at PSX-100 was set to resume on the first day of the week after the two-day holidays. But trading at the bourse hasn’t kicked off due to the fire incident.

In a statement, PSX’s General Manager and Chief Market Operations Officer said, “It is hereby informed to all TRE Certificate Holders and concerned that the trading in all securities has been temporarily suspended from 10:25 am to 11:25 am today.”

According to the PSX management, the fire erupted at around 8 am which resulted in some material loss but no loss of life has been reported due to the blaze.
