MEXICO: The upper house session in Mexico City suddenly became a battlefield, with opposition and government senators clashing after a debate on US military intervention.

The incident occurred during the session when opposition leader Alejandro Moreno was denied a chance to speak.

Following this, Moreno grabbed the arm of Senate President Gerardo Fernández Noronha, and the two began to fight.

Viral videos of the scuffle showed one senator punching the other while another was knocked to the ground.

Noronha later appeared at a press conference with an injured member of his team, whose arm and neck were bandaged.

Noronha accused the opposition of forming a gang and said Moreno had threatened to kill him, and announced that he would also try to have Moreno and other involved members expelled from the chamber.

Moreno took a stand on social media that the ruling party changed the agenda and prevented the opposition from speaking, which we protested against.

The real provocation was caused by Noronha, and we stood up against the government’s cowardly behavior.
