Turkey signs $11 billion deal to buy 20 Eurofighter jets from UK

ISLAMABAD: Turkey has signed a deal to buy 20 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft worth $11 billion from Britain to strengthen its air defense capabilities.

According to a foreign news agency report, the ceremony related to the agreement was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

On this occasion, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that this is a very important agreement because it consists of orders worth 8 billion pounds, or $10.7 billion, which will provide jobs to local residents for 10 years. According to him, the production of Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft is a great success for our country.

The British Ministry of Defense called this agreement the largest fighter aircraft contract of the current century and said that this project will increase Turkey’s air capability and strengthen NATO’s power in the south-eastern direction.

Speaking in the Turkish capital, Starmer said that this is NATO‘s southeastern front, so the agreement with the UK for this capability is extremely important for NATO.

President Erdogan described the agreement as a new welcome sign of defense cooperation with the UK. He said that we see it as a new dimension of the strategic relationship between two close allies.
