LONDON: The Met Office has issued an amber warning for heavy rain in various parts of the UK, advising against all non-essential travel.

According to British media, heavy rain could cause travel disruption, with rail operators warning passengers not to travel due to flooding, with South Wales expected to be the worst affected.

An amber warning will remain in place until 9pm tonight, with up to 100mm of rain expected. A yellow warning is also in place for rain in parts of south-west and north-west England, the north-east and some parts of South and West Wales.

The Met Office has issued 150 warnings and the Environment Agency has issued 78 alerts for England, including 7 warnings. The effects of the rain will be felt more in the western parts, where the risk of flooding is highest.

Flood warnings have also been issued for several areas by Natural Resources Wales, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and the Met Office, with train and bus services and buildings at risk of damage.
