WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has announced that most of the additional revenue generated by the United States from tariffs (trade taxes) will be distributed to citizens in the form of dividends.

Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Sunday that every American citizen will be given at least $2,000, however, high-income citizens will not benefit from this scheme.

He added that “We are receiving trillions of dollars and will soon start paying off $3.7 trillion in debt. Every person (except high-income earners) will be paid at least $2,000.”

On the other hand, according to foreign media, the US Supreme Court is currently reviewing the legality of the trade tariff policy implemented by Trump. Earlier, several lower courts have declared some of the taxes illegal.

It should be recalled that in October, Trump proposed giving people $1,000 to $2,000 during an interview and said that the tariffs he implemented could generate more than $1 trillion in annual revenue for the United States.
