Government’s big plan to promote electric transport, announces subsidy of thousands of rupees on e-bikes

Federal Govt to provide 116,000 e-bikes on installment

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced important steps to promote electric transport in the country and has set a target of increasing the number of electric vehicles on the roads to 2.2 million by 2030.

For this purpose, the government will provide various incentives and financial facilities so that more and more citizens are attracted to electric vehicles and motorcycles.

This plan will not only promote modern transport but will also reduce the country’s dependence on fuel imports.

In a briefing given to the Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production, it was informed that a subsidy of Rs. 9 billion has been allocated for the purchase of two- and three-wheeled electric vehicles.

Under this scheme, citizens purchasing electric motorcycles will be provided financial assistance of up to Rs. 80,000 per motorcycle.

The aim of this initiative is to make electric riding more accessible to the common citizens, especially the middle and low-income groups.

According to officials, significant progress has also been made in the local manufacturing of electric vehicles in Pakistan. So far, more than 12,800 electric vehicles and more than 160,000 electric motorcycles have been produced in the country.
