ISLAMABAD: Details of government subsidy provided on cheap motorcycles and rickshaws under the Prime Minister Electric Motorcycle Scheme have been released.
Hammad Mansoor, Chief Executive Officer of the Engineering Development Board, while talking to a private TV, shared details regarding the subsidy provided by the government on electric motorcycles and rickshaws under the EV scheme.
Hammad Mansoor said that funds of Rs 100 billion are being allocated for the next 5 years in the electric motorcycle scheme, while funds of Rs 9 billion have been allocated by the Prime Minister for the current financial year.
He said that under this scheme, a subsidy of Rs 80,000 per motorcycle will be provided on 116,000 motorcycles this year, while a subsidy of Rs 400,000 will be provided on each rickshaw under the electric rickshaw scheme.
The CEO said that under the scheme, the price of Prime Minister EV bikes is 50 to 60 thousand cheaper than other brands, and a target has been set to provide 76 thousand motorcycles by June under this scheme.
Hammad Mansoor said that only those who are above 18 years of age and have a driver’s license can benefit from this scheme.
The CEO Engineering Development Board further said that the Prime Minister’s Electric Motorcycle Scheme is 100 percent transparent and all stages of this scheme are linked to an automated system. Electric motorcycles will not only reduce environmental pollution but will also save about 8 thousand rupees on petrol every month.
