PESHAWAR: A new vehicle registration system has been introduced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, under which the vehicle number will now be the personal property of the citizen instead of the vehicle.
The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa officially launched the “Personalized Registration Mark System” (PRM), after which the old number will remain with the seller even if the vehicle is sold.
According to excise officials, the new digital registration system will help eliminate fake and clone number plates while also helping in making the vehicle registration process fast, transparent and corruption-free.
It was informed in the briefing that under the PRM system, the citizen will be able to retain the ownership of the vehicle number just like the ownership of an identity card or mobile number.
It was further said that when the vehicle is sold, the old number will remain with the owner without any additional fee, while the buyer will have to apply for a new number himself. Citizens will be able to retain their registration number for three years without using it on any vehicle.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also announced a martyr package for the Excise Department in anti-drug operations on the lines of the police.
He said that a strict crackdown would be carried out against drug peddlers and special attention would be paid to big networks. He said that the zero tolerance policy would continue to make the province drug-free.
