Online vehicle transfer facility unveiled for overseas Pakistani

ISLAMABAD: Overseas Pakistanis can purchase, sell, register, and transfer their vehicles in Pakistan from any other foreign country without visiting embassies or authorising their family members through lengthy power of attorney procedures.

Director General Excise and Taxation Umar Sher Chattha has made a big step in facilitating overseas Pakistanis by enabling biometric verification abroad.

A formal application has been made with the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) for integration of biometric services under the Pak-ID system for overseas citizens.

The DG Excise added that citizens’ identity cards and vehicle information are already interconnected, so it is technically possible for remote processing.

After NADRA enables biometric access, overseas Pakistanis would be able to register vehicles or transfer them directly while remaining abroad.

Earlier, the process used to involve embassy verification and authorizing power of attorney for immediate relatives in Pakistan, which tended to create huge delays as well as legal issues.

Thousands of car transfers remain pending as a result of there being no proper overseas biometric system in place.

The new initiative is likely to reduce processing time drastically and provide ease to the overseas Pakistani
