Punjab govt bans on purchase of petrol vehicles

Govt cuts taxes on imported used vehicles, age limit removed

LAHORE: The Punjab government has taken a big decision and banned the purchase of petrol vehicles for government departments.

Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has announced that the provincial government has banned the purchase of petrol-powered vehicles for government departments.

He said that now only hybrid or electric vehicles will be purchased in government institutions and the government is taking steps to promote the use of electric vehicles in the country.

The Finance Minister said that if the global situation, especially the war situation, continues, the government will have no other option but to increase the prices of petroleum products.

He added that the government tried to reduce fuel consumption, but no significant steps were taken in this regard at the public level.

Talking about the situation in Pakistan, he said that the country is facing an increase in fuel consumption of 7 to 10 percent every week, and if this trend continues, an increase in petrol prices may be inevitable.
