Govt plans special solar scheme for flat owners

KARACHI: Continuing its push for renewable energy, the Sindh government is launching a solar home system program, with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari set to inaugurate the initiative today.

The program aims to empower 200,000 households with solar power, starting with 50,000 in the first phase. Selected families, identified through the Benazir Income Support Programme’s poverty scorecard, will receive the solar systems.

The $32 million project, funded by the World Bank, targets 6,665 families in each district of Sindh. Despite initial delays due to former federal government policies and the pandemic, the program has already installed solar systems in 33 public hospitals and 24 government buildings.

  • 50,000 in the first phase, selected based on the poverty scorecard
