Chicken meat price increases massively in Lahore, parts of Punjab

Chicken prices increase across Pakistan

LAHORE: Chicken meat prices continue to rise in Lahore, as shopkeepers are openly flouting the official rate list issued by the authorities.

Citizens are expressing concern over the uncontrolled inflation in poultry prices, which is affecting household budgets across the city. The price of broiler meat has increased by Rs 5 to 10 per kg, reaching Rs 600 per kg in the open market. However, in some areas, it is being sold at Rs 620 per kg, well above the official rates.

Latest data shows that the farm rate of live broiler chicken is Rs 385 per kg. Vendors reportedly bought it at Rs 400 per kg, while the wholesale rate was around Rs 400. Retailers got the product at Rs 420 per kg, even though the government’s official retail rate is Rs 411.

Despite these rates, consumers are being charged up to Rs 431 per kg for live broiler chicken at the retail level, raising concerns over the implementation of price controls.
