Chicken prices soar in federal capital, check rates inside

Chicken prices surge ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr in Karachi

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad administration has faced challenges in implementing controlled chicken rates in local markets. Although wholesale prices have dropped, retailers are charging high prices for chicken.

For instance, a vendor in the G-8 Markaz area, who sells chicken to numerous neighborhoods, said that the wholesale price of chicken dropped from Rs20,800 to Rs19,400 per maund (approximately 40 kgs) in two days, which means a price drop of Rs520 to Rs485 per kg.

However, the Islamabad district administration still uploaded its daily rate list at Rs495 per kilo, while vendors were charging Rs5 -10 over this price.

This points to the failure in providing primary consumers with the benefits from price drops, going against the claims of the federal government regarding declines in inflation in general. The failure of price measures has resulted in primary consumers paying inflated prices.
