Chicken prices surge Rs 95 per kg ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr 2024

ISLAMABAD: The price of chicken increased by Rs70 per kg while the price of chicken meat increased by Rs95 per kg from the beginning of Ramadan from March 12 to April 8, 2024 (from 1st Ramadan to 28th).

From March 12 to April 28, 2024, the price of poultry chicken increased by 15 percent and the price of chicken meat increased by 17 percent per kg.

In Ramadan, the price of chicken was fixed at Rs 410 per kg, it increased to Rs 475 per kg, similarly, the price of chicken meat at the beginning of Ramadan was Rs 595 per kg, which increased to Rs 690 per kg. went 28th of Ramadan.

Meanwhile, on April 6 (Ramadan 26), the price of live chicken was Rs 437 per kg and the price of meat was Rs 634 per kg. It increased by Rs 38 and Rs 56 in just two days and was sold at Rs 475 and Rs 690 by Ramadan 28.

During the last four weeks of Ramadan, the prices of poultry chicken and meat have increased by 10 to 12 percent from normal days to weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, due to which the people have to face severe inflation in Ramadan.

Similarly, the price of eggs, which was Rs 220 per kg before Ramadan, increased by Rs 40 per dozen in the first week of Ramadan and Rs 60 per dozen in the second week.

Poultry is a major source of protein for the middle and lower middle class in the country and the increase in poultry prices during Eid is a cause of concern for middle class consumers.
