ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has dismissed allegations that Pakistani Rupee (PKR) currency notes containing pen marks or writing will become invalid as a method of payment from July 1, 2025.
The central bank termed such news as false and misleading. SBP Chief Spokesperson Noor Ahmed clarified that the central bank had issued no such notification.
His comments followed a fake notice circulating on social media and certain news platforms that claimed marked currency notes would no longer be legal tender in the new fiscal year.
The spokesperson stressed that currency notes are a national asset and should be treated with care for preservation, but contrary to the misleading viral information, they do not prohibit the use of currency notes with pen marks.
