PESHAWAR: The Flour Mills Association has expressed fears of a severe wheat crisis and said that illegal obstacles are being placed in the delivery of wheat from Punjab.
According to details, the Pakistan Flour Mills Association has warned the provincial and federal governments about the growing wheat crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Chairman of the association Naeem Butt has demanded that the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa take immediate notice of the seriousness of the situation.
Chairman of the Flour Mills Association Naeem Butt says that the prices of flour in the province are increasing on a daily basis.
He alleged that illegal obstacles are being placed in the delivery of wheat from Punjab to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, due to which the balance of supply and demand in the market has deteriorated.
Chairman of the Flour Mills Association revealed that extortion is being openly collected from vehicles bringing wheat at inter-provincial check posts and if the truck drivers refuse to pay, FIRs are registered against them and the vehicles loaded with wheat are seized.
Naeem Butt clarified that the ban on the movement of wheat and these check posts are a clear violation of Article 151 of the Constitution, which grants the right to free trade across the country.
He expressed regret that despite repeated assurances from the federal government, obstacles in the supply of wheat from Punjab still persisted.
The Chairman Flour Mills Association warned that if the government did not immediately ensure uninterrupted supply of wheat from Punjab and did not eliminate illegal check posts, then the flour crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would spiral out of control, for which the entire responsibility would lie with the administration.
