ISLAMABAD: The government has issued another tender to import sugar, amid the rising of prices in the local market.

According to the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), the tender for one lakh metric tonnes of sugar will be opened on August 11.

A few days ago, the government ordered the import of 2 lakh tonnes of sugar, given the rising prices of sugar.

On the other hand, sugar is not available at the official rate in various cities, and sugar is missing from shops in Lahore, while shopkeepers have also increased the prices of jaggery and sugar.

After a decrease of Rs 7 per kg in Quetta, sugar has come down to Rs 178 per kg, which was being sold at Rs 185 per kg till yesterday, while the district administration has fixed the official price of sugar at Rs 177 per kg.

Earlier, due to the sugar crisis, the prices of sugar in Multan’s grain and open market have increased sharply.

The wholesale price of sugar has increased by Rs 6 per kg.

According to reports, sugar is being sold at Rs 170 to 176 per kg and the price of sugar in the open market is now Rs 200 to 220 per kg.

The local administration has completely failed to ensure the sale of sugar at controlled prices.

Citizens have expressed serious concern over the situation.

They demand that the government take immediate action to reduce sugar prices and control black marketing of the commodity.
