PESHAWAR: The KP government has announced to deduct salaries of its employees and of semi-government institutions to raise emergency funds for relief and rehabilitation work in the flood-stricken area.
As per an official announcement issued by the Finance Department, grades 17 and above will have two days’ salary deducted, whereas grades 1 to 16 will have one day’s basic pay deducted. The deductions will be made on the August 2025 payroll and will extend to all employees of the government, semi-government, and autonomous institutions in the province.
Finance Ministry said the choice was unanimously endorsed in a provincial cabinet meeting held recently. The amount raised will be utilized to accommodate affected families in temporary housing, provide food, medical relief, and other relevant services, and fund reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.
Heavy rains and floods in KP districts in the recent past have resulted in heavy loss of life and extensive damage to houses, roads, agricultural fields, and essential infrastructure, warranting immediate government intervention.
KP government highlighted that this effort is a joint endeavor to extend instant relief to the victims of floods and enhance the process of recovery in the worst-affected areas.
Heavy downpours, the floods in Pakistan resulted in massive destruction, and till now, 368 people have lost their lives in KP, 182 injured, more than 1,300 houses have been damaged, and almost 100 schools have been destroyed. Children are especially exposed because of displacement, interrupted schooling, and restricted access to safe water.
Urban flooding in Karachi killed at least six people, while Punjab experienced widespread flooding along the Indus and Chenab rivers, inundating over 2,300 families and damaging thousands of acres of agricultural produce.
