Govt to launch ‘pre-paid supply’ project

ISLAMABAD: According to a report, the federal government has chosen to begin a massive project that would use contemporary technology to provide consumers with a “pre-paid supply” of electricity.

The federal government has received ideas about pre-paid household supply tariffs from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra).

For the pre-paid meters, the Nepra suggested a power rate of Rs43.40 per unit.

Pre-paid cards for usage in the meters would be given to the customers, according to sources. Once the card has been charged, it will be given to the customer.

Customers’ access to electricity will be immediately cut off when their pre-paid cards expire.

The massive projection applies to LESCO and all other power supply firms.
