Milk, yogurt prices increase ahead of Eid in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: District administration in Peshawar has said that they officially bumped up milk and yogurt prices all around the city, so households are getting hit again.

As per the newly issued official rate list, buffalo milk has been set at Rs. 260 per litre, cow milk at Rs. 240 per litre, and yoghurt is now priced at Rs. 280 per kilogram.

Shopkeepers and dairy sellers were also instructed to keep the official price chart clearly visible near their counter and shelves, to make things more transparent , and so people don’t get overcharged.

These revised rates are coming at a time when dairy product costs are rising in many parts of Pakistan, too, with reasons being higher transportation expenses, increased animal feed prices, fuel hikes, and general inflationary pressure.

Similar jumps in milk and yoghurt prices have already been talked about recently in some cities, such as Rawalpindi and Karachi, among others.

People here in Peshawar are worried about this new rise; they say it will hit daily household budgets in a strong way, especially close to the Eid season, when food outgoings usually climb.

Officials also warned dairy shop owners not to mess with the approved rates, and they mentioned that strict action may be taken if any profiteer is found charging above the government-fixed prices.

Authorities have further urged consumers to report any complaint if they see overpricing or if the shop isn’t following the official rate list properly. Overall, the rising cost of essential food items, dairy included, is becoming a bigger concern nationwide, and citizens want tighter market watching plus firmer enforcement of those official prices.
