New Pakistani rupee design unveiling awaits cabinet approval

New Pakistani rupee design unveiling awaits cabinet approval

KARACHI: Anticipation for the new currency notes is rising as the public awaits the official unveiling of the new Pakistani rupee, which is expected after the cabinet approval.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has finalized the design of the all-new series of banknotes in what is said to be a bold change in the country’s monetary identity.

State Bank Governor Jamil Ahmed made the announcement at a press conference in Karachi, where he also revealed that the central bank will maintain the current interest rates. But the real headline grabber was the long-awaited update on the new currency notes.

The SBP chief said the fresh design marks a key leap in both aesthetics and security. “The process is ongoing, and the design has been selected after much deliberation,” he said. “Now we are moving towards the next phase, which will begin after the cabinet approval.”

Although the new look has been selected, it remains under wraps. Ahmed stressed that none of the images circulating on social media or shown in the media, including images from past art competitions of the State Bank, are original designs.

The new banknotes are expected to have advanced security features and enhanced durability, bringing Pakistan’s currency in line with global standards.
